VOL: 2 DESTROY
7/21 - 5pm EST
RAITO & KESSEKI
These two pairs, Raito (light) & Kesseki (stone) were influenced by Tokyo. The bright white lights and all of the cement/stone throughout the city was a true representation of a "concrete jungle". It's hard to imagine or remember that you're on an island when you walk around a place like Tokyo. Nothing about it feels like an island at all. It wasn't until leaving Japan that we had the thought "oh yeah, we're on an island" as we took of from the runway. The airport is right on the water and when you take of you ride the runway right up to its edge.
When we first thought to do this collection we knew that we wanted to create pieces that were directly inspired by our experience in Japan, as well as the origins and culture of Japan, but we did not expect pieces to be directly inspired by specific photos that were taken while we were there. Each photo seen here is exactly where we pulled the colors from for these two pairs.
Not that the color gray or the color white is anything "special" or out of the ordinary but for us/these pieces, there's a reason why they are these colors.
ASAHI & KURAI
These two pairs, Asahi (rising sun) & Kurai (dark/gloomy), were influenced by Japan's culture and origins, as well as our love and connection to anime. The two images shown are the two polar opposites of Japan, at least that we saw. One of the oldest towns left of its kind seen in the right photo compared to a modern day city on the left.
The red pair are inspired by Japan's flag and the rising sun and the black pair are directly influenced by Anime, specifically Demon Slayer, as they all have the "destroy" kanji on their backs. Also seen on Evil Ryu from Street Fighter as he also has the kanji for "destroy" on his back. We also changed it up for the bottoms of these pairs specifically. Rather than saying "Dead" on the bottom of the left sock and "Knit" on the bottom of the right like every other pair we've done so far, including the two pairs seen above. These ones will have "destroy" on the bottom of each sock.
Unlike the previous two pairs, these ones were not directly influenced by the images seen here but the images seen here do play a part. The one on the left, holding more influence over the black pairs of socks, taken in Akihabara, known more recently as a cultural home to the diehard fans of gaming, manga and anime as you can see in the giant anime posters plastered on the buildings. This is more of a representation of Japan now in current day where as the photo on the right holds more influence over the red pair of socks as it represents the origins of Japan "the land of the rising sun".
DESTROY
The shirts/caps in the drop are mirror images of the socks in both their colors and in where inspiration for them was drawn from. We're stoked on this drop and to get it out to y'all.
Just like last time this will be a LIVE DROP W/ LIMITED QUANTITIES.
